BAS Caring for Alpacas

To help improve the care of alpacas and to give invaluable advice to new and potential owners, as well as established owners and breeders, the BAS has created a series of Welfare and Husbandry videos, which is now available to all members.

The videos, which are very enjoyable and comprehensive feature Dr Alex McSloy a lecturer in large animal internal medicine at the Royal Veterinary College, and Garry Naish, an experienced breeder and shearer, who has owned alpacas for more than 10 years.

The videos are well-paced and give sensible and sound advice about their environment, healthcare, feeding – in fact all the basics are covered, as well as some advanced care practices like giving injections. The delivery is straightforward and offers owners plenty of handy hints and tips, that they would otherwise be unaware of.
