To help improve the care of alpacas and to give invaluable advice to new and potential owners, as well as established owners and breeders, the BAS has created a welfare and Husbandry DVD, which is now available to all members.
The 45 minute film, which is very enjoyable and comprehensive features Dr Alex McSloy a lecturer in large animal internal medicine at the Royal Veterinary College, and Garry Naish, an experienced breeder and shearer, who has owned alpacas for more than 10 years.
The film is well-paced and gives sensible and sound advice about their environment, healthcare, feeding – in fact all the basics are covered, as well as some advanced care practices like giving injections. The delivery is straightforward and offers owners plenty of handy hints and tips, that they would otherwise be unaware of.
Specific topics covered in the DVD
Infact the dvd covers just about everything an alpaca owner will need to know even information on poisonous plants
