BAS Members Workshop

 We are delighted to announce that the BAS has arranged a 'not to be missed' opportunity for members to join a Masterclass with Jude  Anderson on Friday the 11th and Saturday the 12th of March which will be held at a venue in Reading.

The first day will be aimed at newer breeders and the second day will be a more advanced workshop.


  • Alpaca Fibre - how it grows, how the structure affects its properties, the difference between suri and huacaya, its fitness to function, understanding the elements of histograms, the relationships between aspects of fibre.
  • Alpaca Conformation - fitness to function, trueness to type, definition of body parts and how they relate to the whole, what we should look for in breeding the best, healthiest alpaca.
  • Hands-On - Putting it into practice with a view to creating your personalized evaluation format.
  • Understanding Genetics for Alpaca production - A look at the concepts we should all understand as livestock breeders.



  • Genetics - Breeding for Gain - Understanding selection methods and principles, in-breeding and line-breeding, breeding values/EPDs.
  • Density and Skin Biopsies - understanding the definitions, the process and the information provided by a biopsy, how to assess density by hand.
  • Hands-on - taking it a step further from Day One, focusing on density.

We are strictly limited to 20 places on each day, first come first served.  This is a tremendous opportunity for members to learn from a most respected and experienced breeder and judge so don't miss your place!
