Bath and West - 2013 will be the 150th show making it one of the oldest, along with largest agricultural shows in the country.

The Show Society have been tremdous supporter of alpacas sponsoring overseas judges for three shows. It was also one of the first agricultural shows to host a BAS Alpaca Show the first appearance of alpacas being the 2001 show. Initially it was a show on the last day of the last day of the four day show, with the classes taking place in the facilties used for the sheep classes on the first 3 days.

The number of alpacas attending the show has grown rapidly at one point exceeding 400. The alpaca show grew steadily from a Saturday only show to first two days when we were moved into the Sedgemoor Building which had previously been dedicated to the Cattle Show. Over the next three years the alpaca show grew to being a four day show and still we struggled to  accommodate all the entries.  Since 2009 the show society has provided the alpacas with their own dedicated marquee with its own entry/exit gate allowing alpacas to arrive and depart  the day they are shown. The dedicated marquee has a large indoor ring and for alpacas staying more than one day the luxury of both indoor and outdoor penning.   With enhanced bio security measures introduced in 2011 - the alpaca area always impresses the on site veterinary team.

The alpaca show is one of the biggest crowd pullers at the show which over the 4 days has afootfall of 100,000 plus.

In 2012 the organisers were invited to provide a parade of alpacas each afternoon accompanied by a talk in the major countryside arena. We will be doing this again in 2013 along with offering the opportunity for exhibitors to have craft tables in the main marquee.
