NWAG Alpaca Championships

19 May 2013

The first ever NWAG Alpaca Championships attracted 172 entries, from 38 breeders from all over the UK. Held on the 6th April 2013 at the Borderway Mart Exhibition Centre, Carlisle, the weather could have been kinder, with temperatures barely above freezing. However, the venue was declared a hit having well spaced, large penning areas, and good ventilation for the alpacas; and warm, well lit, and well serviced facilities for the breeders.

Tim Hey did a fantastic job as our judge, and even managed to fit in some judge apprenticeship opportunities for trainee judge Joy Whitehead.

This Colour Championship show was organised by three local breeders who were the gold sponsors; Beck Brow Alpacas of Cumbria, Cockerham Alpacas and Greenside Alpacas. The show was very well supported with all sponsorship opportunities taken and maximum entry levels achieved.

Our stewards did an amazing job, even doubling up as handlers in the ring to ensure the show ran as smoothly as possible. There was a very supportive and sporting atmosphere about the show, and we are very grateful for all the exhibitors, sponsors and stewards who helped make the first NWAG Alpaca Championships a success.

The Suri Supreme Championship was taken by Greenside Suri Romulus, a fawn intermediate male.

Greenside Alpacas also took the Best British bred Suri with Greenside Suri Bright Eyes. The Huacaya Supreme Championship was awarded to adult fawn male; Fowberry Nobility and the Best British bred Huacaya went to a junior black male; Nero Black Shadow. Congratulations!
