Northumberland County Show

13 March 2018

Max numbers 125

The Northumberland Alpaca Championship will take place on May 28th 2018 as part of the Northumberland County Show at Bywell, Stocksfield.

We are looking forward to welcoming back judge Nick Harrington-Smith, and I know we will all benefit from his high standard of judging and feedback.

We are lucky to have the use of the larger marquee as the setting of the show again this year and we have the facilities to allow animals to say over the night before the show on the highly secured showground if required.

The show attracts many herds from outside Northumbria and last year we were pleased to welcome back entrants from Yorkshire, Cumbria and Wirral with many breeders showing for the first time in Northumberland.  As well as the usual classes, and the sire progeny, this year we are pleased to include two new classes, the ‘Best Modern Grey’ and the ‘Best Appaloosa'

We are also always very keen to encourage the younger breeders of the future and this year will be no exception. We welcome young handlers up to 12 years old, to come and demonstrate their alpaca handling skills and knowledge by negotiating a small obstacle course and answering a few simple questions on alpacas.

As part of the Northumberland Show, the alpaca section prides itself in always attracting a lot of interest from the public and as always, they have controlled access to the animals in the marquee as well as a ring side seat to all the classes and judging throughout the day.  We have also created a bigger “show and tell” area in the marquee allowing the general public to widen their knowledge on camelids and a perfect chance for you to interact with the wider audience.

The show continues to go from strength to strength developing year on year and we would love to see you there! Entries open March 1st to 30th April 2018. (Please note: due to popularity, entries closed earlier than this date last year)
